In the summer of 2011, Universal Pictures announced that it acquired the remake rights to “Phasma Ex Machina,†an independent short film directed and written by Matt Osterman. The title of the film was changed to “Ghost from the Machine†when it was released on DVD. The Universal remake will be directed by Gary Shore. Nathan Parker is writing the screenplay. “Phasma Ex Machina” is about Cody, young man who is stuck raising his younger brother after their parents die in a terrible car accident.I was looking for more information and found it here. Cody’s desire to see his parents again drives him to build an electromagnetic device that allows him to part the veil that separates the land of the living and the land of the dead, Aurora satellite tv packages, or the Otherworld. Unfortunately, the device works too well. It provides enough energy to allow the dead to cross over into the land of the living; an action that proves to be quite dangerous. “Ghost from the Machine†has a Victorian feel to it, with the main plot revolving around a mad scientist’s desire to bring the dead back to life, a desire driven by a deep seated guilt that Cody feels over the car accident that took his parent’s lives.
